This is my output for the summer works based upon the book Invisible Cities by Italo Calvino. The brief was to chose a single city as described in the book and then compare, contrast, consume and indulge in an exploration of urban topography. Specifically a city was visited, documented, read and experienced and the outcome was to bring the fictional and factional cities together. The spine of my investigation was based on the city of Palma, with narrow apertures and a labyrinth like network of streets. The city I feel is treated as a collection of squares, markets, arcades, churches and courtyards. These aspects of the city would be lifeless without human interaction. To be brief this exercise led me to consider the city as a container, a membrane of activity. The city is a theatre reflecting and refracting the activity it creates from within.
